Aerodynamic research has created a unique silhouette, styled by the wind

The Maserati engineers have introduced a series of changes on the GranCabrio MC aimed at enhancing the car’s aerodynamic efficiency without compromising its innate class and elegance. Features developed for the GranTurismo MC Stradale coupé have been adapted to the needs of a sleek convertible like the GranCabrio: features masterfully combined that help to create a unique silhouette, styled by the wind.


Elegance and sportiness in the black details of the Shadow Line version

The front is dominated by the traditional Maserati oval grille featuring black vertical fillets and a Trident with red mouldings in the centre. In line with the image of the Shadow Line version with its many black exterior details, the new front lights come in a feisty matt black, while the LED tail lights sport an exclusive burnished finish.

At the rear, the bumper has been redesigned with centrally located exhausts and a profile designed to promote efficient flow out from under the body.

The high tailpipes leave room for a very pronounced extractor profile

At the rear, the tailpipes are positioned higher and more centrally to leave space for the bottom of the bumpers, which improves the extraction of airflow from underneath the car. The spoiler incorporates a third brake light and produces downforce at high speeds. The dynamic look created by the lines is also emphasised by the 20” MC Design wheels, which are not only lighter, but also sport the traditional Maserati Trident, which has skilfully been incorporated into their double spokes.

The original pearly white colour recalls the triumphs of the mythical Birdcage

The functional, aggressive look of the body is enhanced by unique details like the new Bianco Birdcage three-layer paint finish: with its unusual blue tints, this colour seems to change all the time. A striking effect that is a nod in the direction of the white and blue-striped trim that was the hallmark of the Tipo 61 Birdcage, a car that competed successfully in the top US championships in the early Sixties.


The ideal place to find out what an open-top sporty drive really means

Hands on the sporty steering wheel, fingers ready to caress the gear shift paddles, right foot ready to unleash the acceleration that the V8 engine is growling to deliver. All the while soaking up the surrounding environment - the sun and the sky but also the luxurious, sporty cabin with its superbly ergonomic design. Travelling in the GranCabrio MC is truly a unique experience.

The racing-style seats with integrated headrest evoke the beauty of the exterior

The design of the new wraparound sports seats echoes the elegant lines of the exterior: even with the roof up, the car’s major stylistic innovations cannot fail to catch the eye. The headrests integrated into the seat backs, embossed with the Maserati logo, sit atop larger, more comfortable seats that also provide better restraint during sports driving.

A steering-wheel covered with unique materials for absolute control

The new three-spoke sports steering-wheel incorporates the multifunction control buttons for the on-board devices and has a more heavily profiled grip. Available in leather and Alcantara®, leather-only or leather and carbon fibre, it reflects the Maserati engineers’ focus on optimising the use of space: the top and bottom of the rim are flattened for an even more compact look.

The gear-shift paddles and pedals are an extension of the driver’s will

Peeking out from behind the steering wheel are the new, longer Trofeo Design gear-shift paddles: firmly connected to the steering column, they are available in carbon fibre on request and are designed to ensure maximum control over gear changes even on the most winding of roads. The accelerator and brake pedals, meanwhile, come in perforated aluminium as standard to ensure optimum grip and improved handling in all conditions.

Alcantara in combination with leather for an adrenalin-filled interior

Those in search of an even more adrenalin-filled interior will be delighted with the Alcantara® package, inspired by the typical upholstery of racing cars. Lighter than leather, this high-tech material can be used to clad a large proportion of the interior: from the brow above the instrument panel to the central armrest and the door panel/handle armrest, through to the central part of the dashboard and the central tunnel.


High-tech solutions that strengthen the concept of an open-top sporty drive

The GranCabrio MC turns heads instantly thanks to its stunning design that combines aerodynamics developed on the track with unrivalled elegance. Yet the technological solutions that make Maserati’s sportiest cabriolet of all a truly unique car actually lie below its handsome exterior. The famous Maserati V8 engine is controlled by an auto-adaptive six-speed gearbox, which detects and responds to the driving style and road conditions, while the suspension has a special setting.

V8 engine: roaring aggression or docility at the touch of the accelerator

The heart of the GranCabrio MC is the legendary 4.7 litre V8 engine. In keeping with the Maserati tradition, this engine features a series of innovations that make it incredibly powerful and flexible, so it can guarantee the smoothest of rides, not to mention excitement in spades, whenever the driver demands. Excitement delivered through amazing performance: 460 HP, top speed of 289 km/h.

The gearbox’s MC Auto Shift functions make the car even more fun to drive

The six-speed automatic gearbox features auto-adaptive software that automatically responds to the driving style and conditions, adapting the gearshifting mode accordingly. It uses MC Auto Shift technology, which operates in a variety of ways depending on the situation, making driving even more satisfying: in manual mode, the gear can be changed at any rpm up to the limiter actuation point.


The suspension has a special setup with stiffer dampers

The wishbone suspension system features a specific set-up with more rigid dampers and springs, while the Sport Skyhook system with continuously variable dampers is available as an option. When the Sport button is pressed, the car becomes more precise and reactive, but continues to absorb bumps in the road as it adapts to any conditions. The Maserati Stability Program (MSP) ensures more freedom of action.

Innovative Brembo dual-cast brakes ensure immediate response

The braking system makes the most of Brembo dual-cast technology with discs crafted from cast iron and aluminium. This brings the weight down by 15% to 20%, whilst also offering enhanced performance and less overall wear. The system comprises six-piston monobloc calipers up front and a four-piston unit in the rear, teamed with drilled, slotted discs: this particular design gives more predictable braking performance and reduces braking distance, especially on wet surfaces.



Every GranCabrio MC is a clear expression of its driver’s style

Fine materials like Poltrona Frau® leather, Alcantara® and carbon fibre come together in the GranCabrio MC to offer endless combinations: the customisation options extend to the smallest of details and include the leather, stitching, mats and mouldings, allowing each client to create an exclusive, made-to-measure car.

Bodywork, soft-top and brake calipers: mechanics become design in motion

On such a sporty convertible, it is appropriate that mechanical details play a major role on the design front: as well as the wide choice of bodywork colour combinations - including the special pearly Bianco Birdcage - and the soft-top, the brake calipers, clearly visible behind the 20” wheels, can also be personalised: there are no less than ten shades available, two of them matt.

Alcantara creates luxurious interiors, with soft high-tech sensations

The Alcantara® package is a fine match for the car’s extremely dynamic look: already used with success on the GranTurismo MC Stradale, it allows various areas of the interior (instrumentation brow, central armrest, door panel/handle armrest, centre of dashboard and central tunnel) to be finished in a material that is lighter than leather and both luxurious and sporty at the same time.

More versions to meet the most diverse of requirements

The decorations on the dashboard, door panels and rear side panels are finished in Dark Chrome as standard, which combines anthracite grey with a warm gleam, or the new EcoChrome, a colour reminiscent of the glow of molten metal. The GranCabrio MC has a really racy personality but there are also choice woods or lacquered shades available for those in search of more sophisticated finishes.

Carbon dominates the MC Sport Line customised packages

There are a number of different MC Sport Line customisation packages, with ample use of carbon fibre detailing both inside and outside the car, to enhance the sporty look and feel of the GranCabrio MC to varying degrees. For the exterior, these packages also include the striking 20” shiny black Neptune Design rims, the ideal finishing touch to give the car an even more racy air.
